About Robbi Botos

Robbi Botos was born into a musical Romani (Gypsy) family in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary. He began his musical career when he was a child playing drums and percussion with his father and two brothers. At the age of seven, Robbi took up the piano, the instrument he has since mastered and with which he has made his mark internationally and on the Canadian Jazz scene. Notable performances include opening up for Bela Flek, Jean-Luc Ponty and Stanley Clarke at the International Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival 2005 and sharing the stage with Oscar Peterson at the prestigious Stravinski Hall in Montreaux, Switzerland. Since immigrating to Canada in 1998, Robbi has been featured with many local and international greats including Pat Labarbera, Marcus Belgrave, Terri-Lynn Carrington, James Blood Ulmer, Vernon Reid, Donald Walden, Archie Alleyne, Dougie Richardson, Roberta Gambarini, Peter Appleyard, Jackie Richardson, Jake Langley, Vitto Rezza, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Young, Norman Marshall Villenueve, Denis Coffee, John Lamb, Joey Defrancesco, Michael Brecker, Peter Cardinali, Toots Thielemans, Guido Basso, Avishai Cohen, and Richard Bona. |
